Caramelized Turnips and Lavender

First of all, turnips are beautiful and appetizing to just to look at! If they did not rot easily, I would display them on my table for days before I eat them!

If you are like me, and you buy vegetables simply because you appreciate their various shapes, and their beautiful colors, then you must have put a bunch of red turnips in your shopping cart at least once.

Here is my signature recipe for a unique, very aromatic appetizer that is sure to blow your senses away when you are preparing it, and impress your guests!

Serves 4

Start to finish time 20 minutes

Cooking time 10-14 minutes


250g Red turnips

2 Tablespoons vegetable oil

½ Lemon juiced

2 Tablespoons water

½ Lemon cut in wedges

2 Tablespoons brown sugar

2 Teaspoons dried lavender flowers



Wash the turnips and cut them in half.

In a medium frying pan, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the halved turnips, lemon juice, water, lemon wedges, sugar and lavender flowers.

Cook on medium heat for 10 to 14 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the turnips are slightly browned and the juice started to bubble.

Remove from the heat and serve immediately.
